What is styrene?

Tuesday, August 4, 2009

I honestly think this is the first question that my clients probably ask themselves when they read my product listing. It's not a common word and definitely not something thrown around in everyday conversation...unless it's a photographer's conversation.

In my words...styrene prefectly presents portraits in a mounting service. It's definitely not the flimsy photopaper that you get from your average printer, to only quickly put in a frame or hang on your refrigerator in fear of something happening to it. It's sturdy, has a high quality feel, and has a variety of presentation options.

In my printer's words....styrene is a plastic mounting board 2mm thick.

Here are a few examples from different prints.

Print sizes, 11x14 and larger are printed on styrene with a linen texture and lustre finish. I tried, stress tried, to photograph the texture. eh...can you see it? (disclaimer..totally not into product photography)
How about this view?
My love for styrene prints ends with the variety is can be presented...leaning on an easel, ledge or put on a wall with velcro...yep, velcro! I'm sure there is a more technical description but here's mine, velcro that has sticky stuff on both sides of velcro tap. One side sticks to the wall and the other sticks to the back of the print.

And...here is the beautiful velcro invention at work.
While many of my clients like pictures of themselves, they're often uncomfortable deciding how to display their portraits. I always ask...."Why?"

It's you, celebrate that you are beautiful and show it off to the world. It is not vain...it is your life. But, my clients ....my cousin in these pictures... often prefer their bedrooms. Which I absolutely love that idea too!

Here, my cousin and I worked closely in choosing the right pictures to print and deciding on the best print presentation. She chose three 20x20 prints to hang horizontally above her bed. AND I just loved it. I couldn't think of three better pictures to display in their personal space to showcase their love for eachother.
Okay, there you have it. The first of my product features. When I was collecting pictures to showcase my products, I realized I'm seriously slacking on getting ONE particular product together...actually two. I'm adding, not two but three, new products to this holiday season. They are so beautifully cute. And yes, that phrase totally works for me.

On another note:
I DID it...I DID it....yeah, I DID it! (ew, that sounded like Dora, Dora, Dora the Explorer)

I FINALLY attacked my holiday scheduling and it is ready to go manana. It will be first opened up to those on the holiday wait list, then it will open up on my blog. IF you are wanting to be one of the first, please email me at tamiproffitt{at}yahoo.com. There is a FAB selection of mini sessions being offered this year and ONE super, secret location I rented out. Due to a number of reasons, I decided to take on more than one mini session. While I know once they get filled, the first question I'll be asked is about another mini session option...so, sadly, I'm going to publicly announce...no. What I have, is all I can give. Why? Mini sessions take a lot of time and having a reasonable turn around time is important and my sanity.

Basically, a mini session is designed for those that:
*don't need a full session but updated portraits for gifts and holiday cards
*had a full session earlier this year
*or simply just want to have fun for no more than 30 minutes, which can be done!
So, at this point you might want to start asking is a mini session is for you?

I plan to release my the mini session details on my blog early next week and open my fall calendar. Please keep in mind, my fall calendar will follow the first come, first serve process. I have a limited number of dates available and *ahem* won't be offering more. Thankfully I have an assistant this year to keep not only my calendar straight but my sanity. And, she'll probably lock me in my house if I try to schedule more since the word no doesn't come out of my mouth often.

Having this done makes me extremely happy! I had plans on releasing this two weeks ago. Hello, my name is Tami and I'm a slacker.

Next on my list:
*make paper airplanes to send my paper trail to the tax man (stinky side of owning a business)
*finalize holiday cards
*present holiday cards in a more understandable manner
*get fully prepared for a two day uber, fabulous workshop!

I'm forgetting something but that's standard, it'll come to me at 4 am I know it!

I wish I had the password to this blog so I could put in BIG letters how you are so NOT a slacker!! Just one of the hardest working, dedicated, best mommy, & friend. Seriously, if people knew what your schedule looked like and all that you balance they would pass out!
So I may try to hack into your blog one day just to give the world a peek!
