Locations

Everywhere I drive, I am ALWAYS scouting for new locations. While I'll look for the typical green grass location...I find myself drawn to the locations that look scary at first sight. But, I see so much more than the location as a whole.

A location is full of little nooks and crannies...little places that will add just the right detail to a portrait session to give that extra touch. I tell my clients to not think about the location as a portrait itself, but as an accessory to a portrait...a small detail. If you notice in my portraits, it isn't too often that I include a large part of the location but instead pull pieces from the location that might add a little color and texture.

While at a client's home today, I couldn't help but wish she lived closer as there were endless opportunities in her neighborhood. Here is one of them....

Let me point out what I see first:
~directionality of the alley
~texture in the wood and chain link fence
~brick wall
~gravel
~random places of grass
...I couldn't imagine what else I would fall in love with if I drove down the alley.


A little further down the road I found this amazing wall! A wall of texture, color, and mood.
I'm thinking maternity...children...and teen sessions. Oh, the fun I could have here.

AND....the countdown has begun. The countdown for when I leave for one of my two favorite cities in the country...Seattle, WA. I'll be leaving Thursday with my twin sister to do a little sight seeing, visiting an aunt and cousins and attending a fantabulous photography workshop. A workshop put on by Cheryl Muhr. A workshop that I was lucky enough to get a spot in, along with 39 other photographers. A workshop that sold out in a day.

While my twin sister actually called me one day saying she thinks she'd like to go with me....I couldn't help but scream..."heck ya!" We can do some "twin"kie bonding, share the same love for this city and I will have a model to photograph on the spot. What she DIDN'T realize when she joined me was knowing that I'll be head over heels in love with the constant urban settings I'll be dying to photograph her with. I'll let you know how long it will take for her to have an attitude similar to my twins... "The camera AGAIN Tami!"
