8 months |Queen Creek Baby Photographer

Monday, August 31, 2009

My baby is 8 months old...that means 4 months until he's one! But, I think I'm going to stick with 8 months ago he was born....that seems closer to his newborn days then closer to being a year!

A few fun facts on my Easton...
1. He likes wearing baseball hats...which is good since baseball's in his future.
2. He has two top teeth ready to bust out any second.
3. Starting to develop quite the attitude. When he gets upset, he just shakes his head left and right.
4. Still giggles and smiles BIG when he sees me...I'll keep you posted when he's 13.
5. Crawls with one knee to the floor and a foot to help him scoot along.
6. Follows his sisters
7. Has figured out which closed doors are to the good rooms...good in terms of fun stuff to NOT chew on! {his sister's room}
8. Loves his dog....and his dog's rawhide. Ewwwww!
9. LOVES to be held.
10. Can feed himself finger food now. {sniff sniff}
When I was taking his picture today, Camryn kept sneeking in.
So, of course she joined the fun. And she had fun posing ideas. This was THE pose she wanted. And Easton not quite figuring out what she's up to.
Also, a while back I mentioned that I was starting to work with an Etsy designer. Here is a small sample of what's to come! All I can write is there are some darn cute pieces...that if you're a photographer or mom...you will want.

Below are two fun snips of two of her cutest creations...that I will be having Easton's ultra fun, 8 month session with.
This two piece set is ADORABLE! So...stay tuned for the must haves...!

Hopefully up next....more sneak peek from the very patient T family! And pictures from my twin's first soccer practice...yep, watch out houses with windows. I'm letting my kickers loose...and with ultra cute soccer balls! I love my sporty, stylin' girls!

Honestly, I've missed working! | Gilbert Newborn Photographer

Sunday, August 30, 2009

Sadly, this horrible stretch of sickies in my house....put me waaaaay behind in work. I recently just sat down and finished my cousin's newborn session, while I was editing I realized how much I missed this outlet. And working felt fabulous...never thought those words would come out so sweetly but it's so true.

My cousin and her precious baby I.

Most newborns photograph easier when they're asleep. When they're awake, they tend to be more jerky and not quite as content. However, little Miss baby I....was awake and very content just being.
With every newborn session, I ask for families to include any pieces from their babies nursery that would make this session complete...anything that has sentimental value or they want included as an important piece from their baby's newborn days. Below is a blanket my other cousin, her sister, gave baby I. It was simply gorgeous.
Aung and David, thank you again being wonderful to work with. And thank you for your patience.

********************
And the saga continues. I wish I could write that it didn't get worse from my last visit to Urgent Care. But it did...early Saturday morning I came down with the yuckies and have been miserable since. Thinking my babies might of had an ounce of this, just breaks my heart. I tell you, it is horrible and would never wish it on anyone.

Then, Saturday night one of our A/C units went out and the side of my house where the kids sleep warmed up to 85 degrees! Yikes! Needless to say, I moved the kids over to my side of the house and we had a slumber party. Thankfully, the most amazing A/C man was at our house first thing in Sunday morning repairing our unit...and let there be air again! Again, I love good people!

Unfortunately, I had a newborn session Sunday morning that was rescheduled. I was seriously bummed about this one...I had been looking forward to it. Now I will just anticipate it that more...

So readers, I plan on this being the very last entry in my Proffit Germ Pit Diary. By God, I don't think it could go beyond 10 days...but at this point, I wouldn't be shocked. At this point, I'm praying for only good times...a quick trip to Target for vitamins galore and scheduling an appointment for flu shots ASAP. Whatever vitamins I find I will buy and this will not be happening again!

Back again!

All I can say is I truly believe my house was the uncover operation for CDC...called operation germ pit.

Case Study: Affects of three children, 3 and under, faced with every infection and germ known to mankind placed on a mother's mental status when husband is out of town.

For those that called to check on me....gave their kindest sympathies and one friend gave me the permanent "poor me" card for the following week. I tell you, I was in a bad place, like if you called me...I might have broken into tears, or began speaking in a cursing tongue, or just sat in silence. Seriously, some friends had to actually ask if I was still on the other end of the phone line...because they could literally hear crickets chirping. But, it was so good to hear another adult's voice...one that didn't whine, cry, beg for more juice or puke.

Wednesday night, I was done...D O N E! I had nothing left in me! And just when I thought it couldn't get worse...Friday morning I woke up to my son covered in hives and a couple large hot circles on his legs. So, I loaded my kids and I for a doctor's visit...where, yep, I gave another donation...or I could view it as paid adult conversation.

By this time, I couldn't do anything but laugh...like give the goofy laugh. Sadly, the doctor asked if I was okay and said I looked like I had been having a rough time. Really? And I thought I actually looked decent considering the circumstances...but I laughed and thanked her for being honest. That I did feel like hell had driven over me, then reversed and repeated this process 50 times. It probably didn't help the we were all in our pajama's...yes, we WERE that family! However, I do think my diva Cashlyn requires therapy after going in public in her pj's...this DID NOT go over easily!

Then...I thought it couldn't get worse until 7 pm yesterday Cashlyn started complaining about her ear hurting. That is when I think my knees buckled and I giggled hard and OUT LOUD! My bestie happily came over to watch my other two while I headed out to Urgent Care where we heard she had a double ear infection. NICE! But then, my day got better believe it or not.

I struggled finding a pharmacy open at 9:45. When I went to the last pharmacy and asked where the nearest 24/7 pharmacy was, with tears welling up in my eyes from exhaustion, the pharmacist was a ray of sunshine and filled my perscription but made me swear to secrecy to not tell anyone....so, shhhhhhh! I love good people...

As of now, I do believe my home is germ free. But I am in the process of washing everything down with Lysol Bleach, with an anti germ garlic necklace.

The best part of these past two days, was taking care of my babies and letting my business just take a backseat. I had to remember to breathe. And I relaxed because of some fabulous clients that told me...they were in no hurry and to take my time. So thank you! Thank you fabulous people!

Between doctor appointments we had a princess tea party, played baby/mam bear, dressed up in tons of princess dresses, played hair dresser, did puzzles, painted and slept together in my bed! Oh, and I can't forget to add that I think we watched enough television that our brains are officially baby food.

Humbling to say the least! | Tempe Child Photographer

Wednesday, August 26, 2009

I know...you're probably thinking this will be another cheesy post about how I love children, family, etc. But this post came from something incredible that happened...

With each session I have with a family, I leave smiling and proud that I was chosen to capture their family. And this means the world to me.

However, recently I had a family schedule a session with me that made me think...think deep...and think about each of the families. You see, this family was affected by a tragedy two years ago. A tragedy I knew about...a tragedy that brought both my husband and I to tears. While I no longer follow their tragedy as closely as I had... I've kept up with their journey. And, with each update...I can't help but have my eyes opened to the strength within this family.
For the last few days, I've been speechless that I am able to work with them in capturing this love...The unconditional love you know exists and that they live and breathe it each day. They are a true example of this love. And I get to work with them...and I get to capture this.

Which led to...I get to capture each client's love. The love they created within their family. The love they are proud of. The love that binds them through their tough times, the love that strengthens them during their weak times and the love that raises their happy times to the heavens.

It is this reminder that keeps me working when it's 1 in the morning, knowing my babies will be awake in 5 hours.
******************************************************************************
Here is a darling from today's fabulous family session! You probably wouldn't believe it...but she will be a year old in a few weeks. And, 1 year olds aren't the easiest to photograph...it's nonstop action. But when it came down to it...she was all grins and worked the camera for me. Which...equals...the horrible disease I'm still seeking treatment for...it's called...
The Chronic Overshooter Disease.
Now tell me...how could you put the camera down when this little miss is in front of it.
Today's shoot took place during a typical 107 degree day...needless to say, flushed cheeks became an accessory. While most of it can be taken care of in post processing, it added a little extra something.
To the Peterson Family...I loved every single second with you. EVERY.SINGLE.SECOND!
************************************************************************
Sadly, right after this session...I got a call from my husband saying my Cashlyn had been vomiting and was begging for me. {insert heart breaking} So, my plans of getting groceries was no longer an option. I HAD TO GET TO MY BABY!

This is where exhaustion overload hits.

FYI...last Wednesday Camryn came down with a super high fever and was the sickest I've seen her. Easton came down with a high fever Monday morning and extremely inflamed eye after a week of him deciding naps weren't necessary and waking up 5 times a night was his new norm. Then Monday night, I took Easton in to Urgent Care at 7 pm and not coming home until 10:30. I took him in thinking he might have an ear infection, which he didn't, and actually just made a nice donation to this medical center and had a small chat while there. Today, Easton still has the fever. Then this morning, Cashlyn woke up feeling sick and also with a high fever...was I shocked no. So...I think we have officially had the longest germ investation stretch for our family. What tops this off...is that my husband was gone last week for 4 days and will be again leaving for 4 days tomorrow. Yep...good times.

So, after tonight, I will be taking the next 24 hours off to just decompress and snuggle with ALL my sick babies and find some sort of zen from cartoon movies. All I know...Madagascar and Ice Age ROCKS.

Extra |Tempe Child Photographer

Every now and again, there are sessions that never make it to the blog...
here is one little girl that I just loved photographing. She was striking in every way.

{holy moly...can we say big picture! Did a new resizing thing and ba-bam, mondo picture!} HA

And one I simply couldn't resist pulling from my cousin's session. Which is slowly but surely
getting edited.

Here and there!

To put it out there again, last week was like the neverending week...and I'm okay with it...I rolled with the punches. But there were times, the punches felt like I was left huge, black and blue marks all over. Nothing seemed to go quite how I had imagined it...
such as writing a goal list to post on my refrigerator as a reminder and before I know it...Monday quickly melted into Friday and the list is still there.

But then I realized that the expectation bar I set was a bit to high. And I'm okay just getting by, when it comes down to it...reaching that bar isn't what will give me peace when my babies are graduating from school.

I left teaching three years ago to be with my babies...to take care of us all. That when I left, I also left my retirement fund and my career. I remember when I retired I heard questions like, "what about retirement? what about your certifications?" And all I could think of was how my retirement fund and certifications wouldn't give me back the fleeting moments that I missed...that my husband and I figured a way for me to stay home and I wanted it.

And I have it...whether or not I'm sleeping, eating a healthy diet, getting chores done, or buying the things I get googly eyes for. I have it all! I have my babies with me. Babies that my husband and I prayed for...

I HAVE IT ALL! And when it comes down to me getting overwhelmed....I simply remember I am living my dream.

This semi-deep post wasn't provoked by some monumental moment but just a way for me to write down what I'm thinking...to share with those that I just met or have connected with.

For me, it's the simple things that make me smile and there are times my happiness gets distracted by the big ticketed items...and...I think I'm going to stay with the simple things.

And, I especially want to thank you for reading my blog...for reading my ramblings, brag moments, vents, grunts, mushing PDA for all things I love, and coming back for more. It seems like after each personal post I hear questions of how I share so much... but that's me. That's me in person. I'm that person that talks without a filter...when I talk, it's 100% me...you'll see my face and my %$&# at one time. You might get offended or you might ask "did she just say what I think she said?", is she really that chessy or...did she miss a Ritalin dose?

So thank you...thank you for reading. Blogging has become my best friend and the little brother that won't leave me alone. Blogging is my outlet professionally and personally...but it's also very time consuming. I hope to be blogging more peeks from client sessions but for now, I need to bury myself in the editing pit I fell into...

Starting point... |Queen Creek Child Photographer

Monday, August 24, 2009

After scheduling a new client, I also start with asking what they had in mind for their wardrobe. That's when the questions start....

Should we all match? No No No No

What you need to do is coordinate each person's outfit to be complimentary of eachother. When starting to coordinate the wardrobe, I suggest that you chose a piece of clothing that you like and build from there.

Here is a dress I just found on sale at Gap.com and thought....THIS piece is a great example for a building point.

This dress can go so many ways...

What I would recommend:
pair this dress with tights, boots and a sweet thin headband, with a cream organza flower leaving the little girls hair down.

Or you could had a fun beanie....
or a scarf ...
or nothing or
put hair in two braids or ponies with fun floppy cream ribbons tied in bows.

It's key to remember to put a wardrobe together that has texture, a complimentary variety, accessories and works well within a color family.

If you have a session with me, please feel free to let me know if you ever need any help in piecing your wardrobe. My assistant, Mariah, and I are always more than happy to talk clothes...our second obsession.

Ups & Downs

Wow....or phew...or how about another WOW...!

This past week has been one heck of a week. It was a week that required consumption of a full bottle of wine, unfortunately wine has yet to hit my lips.

UPs:
~Received an order of 4 gallery wraps this week. Seriously, it was like Christmas....an adult Christmas. I knew what was arriving and knew it would be fabulous...but then went over the moon in happiness when I opened the four glorious wraps. {one of which was mine} There is nothing, NOTHING better than a gallery wrap of your favorite picture.

~Found a fabulous preschool for my twins...now figuring out how I can make it work.

~FINALLY went through Easton's clothes and put away pieces from when he was a newborn. Okay...seriously people...this was a huge feat!

~Made my favorite cupcakes with my girls. There is nothing sweeter than Funfetti by Pillsbury

~Had a slumber party with my twin sister and kids.

~I had my husband come home from a hunting trip and made me a sweet dinner. I just love him!

DOWNs:
~Watched two of my girlfriends go through devastating events...I spent the majority of the phone calls crying with them. There are days that life just is not fair.

~Camryn came down with the nastiest infection. Took her to the doctor on possibly one of the worst days in my mommy history...thankfully my bestie came to my rescue by watching two of my kids while I took Cam to the doctor. Honestly, I think she heard the desperation in my voice when I called her at work for help as my silent plea. AND this was the day that my husband left out of town until today.

~I had one of the biggest screw ups in my business' history. So bad, I can't say it outloud.

~My baby boy battling two seriously stubborn teeth.

~This weeks events totally screwed my workflow up.

I always chuckle when I get asked how I do it...juggle three kids and a photography business...my answer, I don't. I apparently let it juggle me based on how this past week went.

But, the best part is...that week was last week and this is a new week. With new ups and I can't wait to celebrate them.

The best part of this past weekend was having my sister come stay a night with me and I got tons of oohing over my niece Isabelle. Here's a little flashback....

Two weeks old.
5 weeks old

The best part of the weekend was enjoying loads of the high end, above ground swimming pool life.

What I also loved about last week...I lived without regret.

Simply the cutest... |Queen Creek Family Photographer

Thursday, August 20, 2009

I'm happy to share that these sweet children were the happy winners of my birthday week contest....where they won a children's session.

I first met them after my maternity leave...which I think was just a warm up session to get to know me. This session, it was all lovies, chit chatting and me trying to figure a way to see them more.

Now, to their parents surprise, I insisted that they squeeze in a few pictures...and probably more than what they were planning but I'm so glad I did.

Below...here's mom with her two oldest. We tried...stress tried to encourage their 1 year old...but we all know how that goes. That age tends to have fun ideas of their own...
Here is Miss A, their soon to be 2 year old and sporting ultra cute curls, giggles and super fast feet.
But as soon as we were alone...we had fun talking and sharing tons of smiles. Isn't she the cutest...couldn't you just reach in this computer to squeeze her?

Personal Update:
I had big plans for last night and all of today...the bulk of the time included me working. But sadly, my babies came down with something that is NOT pretty. My Camryn slept with me, which involved non stop rolling, moaning, crying and waking up with a high fever. And right now, she is sitting on my lap snuggling. Cashlyn is coming down with the same thing. My poor babies.

Storyboard

Storyboards are the ultimate presentation to showcase the emotion captured in your session by chosing your favorite pictures.

I have yet to have a client not share how they loved the slideshow of their session. Often, that they cried and faithfully watch it each day. Many of my clients prefer to purchase wall prints from their session, so when they are still yearning for all the pictures from their session...the slideshow is the perfect addition.

Here is a client's slideshow and it's fabulous presentation.

CALENDAR UPDATE:
I'm sorry I've been behind in opening my calendar on my blog. I'll be honest, I've been torn in what I'm planning on doing as my calendar is almost full.

Mini Session Information:
I am offering three mini session dates.

September 27th : Urban Location FULL
October 12th : The "Secret Garden" 1 spot left
November 8th : All Natural 1 spot left

****if you're interested in scheduling a mini session, please contact my assistant Mariah for the details and scheduling information at tamiproffitt@yahoo.com.

Regular sessions:
This year I set limits for my calendar. Last year I learned a huge lesson when I over booked myself and nearly drove myself directly into the ground with work overload. I'm going to do my best to hold to my calendar committment by not overbooking....so, I'm finding myself stumped as my calendar is pretty much booked. BUT....I will schedule a few more dates. Here is what's available:

September : 2 dates
October : 1 date
November : 1 date

*Reminder: Once you schedule your session, a non refundable $200 deposit is required to hold your date. This is needed within 4 days of scheduling. Right now, I have a few deposits outstanding...

This family is simply the cutest. And I might be a bit biased as the happy mommy is my cousin...whom I love dearly.

And, the giggly proud big brother.

My Daily Ups & Downs |Queen Creek Family Photographer

Sunday, August 16, 2009

While I didn't formally announce it, I have been on a mini vacation for the past month. By mini I mean, no "official" photo shoots, simply digging myself out of the editing dungen I'm in (still a wedding left) and trying to get organized for the holiday season. I was 50% productive, it has was nice to just get on the computer, catch up on editing between my "organizing".

I should probably add, only shooting and editing is more like a vacation...I dread, and get easily bored, with the organizing part (hence why I'm stiiiiiill behind in product features).

I do have one super fun addition...Adding my personal updates on Sundays called: My daily ups & downs. While I'll continue to do my fun ramblings here and there, I thought it would be fun to sum up the highlights of each week...hoping this will give my postings a bit more fluency instead of popping in with spasmic randoms.

So...there's no better time than the present.

The past week, I had more ups then downs...
{ups)
1. My ultra fun UP was attending a fabulous workshop put on by my friend, Allison Tyler-Jones. For me, I've decided workshops are a MUST. Especially before the busiest photographic season. Workshops have an incredible way of boosting my energy. I find them rejuvenating, directional and keep me from getting stale.

2. My sweet Cash had me "on the ground laughing" when we were sitting outside with my in-laws. She overheard a neighbor playing a song and quickly pointed out that it was my favorite song. I honestly couldn't hear it very good and when I asked her what it was...she told me "Mom, it's the 'Gotta Get That' song!' Huh! I listened more and then giggled. It was the Black Eyed Peas song, Boom Boom Pow song. Um, not quite sure it should be an Up moment, or even a proud mommy moment, considering there's cursing in the song. None the less, she cracks me up. I guess kids really do pay attention to everything including when their crazy mother jams out in the car with chair dancing, while air punching to the 'boom boom's'.
{note: add to the list of issues that need to be addressed in therapy}

3. My sister's baby is doing glorious after suffering from a high fever.

4. Went to a fun water park. Giggled tons with my girls and then teared up on my way home as I realized my babies were growing up faster than I was ready for.

5. Easton is in full blow movement mode. Ack!

6. Having two KICK butt sessions this weekend that included one ultra cute baby and three stylin' kids that had me permagrin my entire 45 minute drive home.

7. Had a two hour lunch with a friend I don't spend nearly enough time with...and left smiling that I have her in my life.

8. Found a jewelry designer that I loooooove...who has a few pieces I plan to buy one day. I love her work so much. I frequent her Etsy store once a week going over pieces she has and how I would loooooove for one particular piece or this piece. While I can't buy one now, it's still an up as I've been looking for creations like these for months. Now when I get the money together, I know what I'm getting. You must check out the designer Cinnamonsticks HERE and enjoy some eye candy for yourself.

9. I just received some products from a designer on Etsy. I'm incredibly flattered as she asked me to photograph her knitted pieces for her to use. Amazing clients, and now a designer, I get to work with...ah, how lucky am I. And no worries, I'll be sharing her pieces with you as soon as I have pictures of them. Here's a hint, they are SA-weet for photographers to use with newborns and babies.

{up and down}
95% of my fall season booked

{downs}
1. During my workshop I functioned on two braincells....and that was after a decongestant. There's nothing worse than being asked a question that deserves an educated response and only producing a combination of consonants and vowels that equal giberish. NOT a good look! Bonus was being able to stay at my mom's during the workshop and being taken care of.

2. When at lunch with my girlfriend, I put my glasses down when I took my daughter to the bathroom and forgot them. I remembered a few minutes later and when I went back they were gone. The restaurant wasn't busy at all and yet no one turned them in. Now, while losing the glasses stinks it comes down to not being that big of a deal as it's just "a thing". There are worse things that can happen. Worse things like people of poor character benefiting from other's misfortunes and actually being okay with it. Seriously! This left my stomach in knots...but I'm using this as a reminder to raise my children with good character and provide them with lessons to make choices they can be proud of when situations arise.
.....................................................................................................................................................................
And since this is a photography blog.
My proud mommy moment. My sweet Cash...my budding artist. At 3 years old, she drew a spider. And not just any spider! A spider hanging by a string, with a body, legs and eyes. What the? Where the? Who the? How the....? HUH! And all on her own.

I was doing the dishes when she called me over to show me her picture. When I looked down and saw her spider, my jaw almost knocked her over on it's way to hitting the ground. Just so you know, when I draw people it's a stick figure that has no resemblance to who it's supposed to be...leading people to believe it was done by a first grader.

A sweet, 2 week old baby girl.
One adorable boy who I think needs to be available when one of my daughters is 30 years old...of course that's when my daughters will be allowed to date.
An fun 3 year old... with super cute pink fingernails...
...who loves her daddy and lamby.
And a super fast, cuuuuute 1 year old who totally chills with suckers!

{HUGE UPDATE and CORRECTION!}
And ending with a huge giggle from the last comment on my previous blog post and the few emails I've received. Sadly, for my mother yearning heart there are no babies coming in the future. While I'm hanging my head low...we are done with three. But believe me, I could do 4, 5, 6.....I don't think I could ever stop. I don't think I could ever say I'm not having children. Don't get me wrong, my days often end with me thinking of tall margaritas or a heaping glass of wine or even a shot on those rough days. But they do make me smile. There was a time I wanted 1o children...then I thought I was done with after the sleepless nights with twins and then we had baby number three...and we know we are comfortable with three.

Warning: Baby fever is contagious! |Phoenix Newborn Photographer

Thursday, August 13, 2009

Now, thankfully this newborn session was my twin's session...if not, there might have been a problem when I attempted to move in for the night just because I couldn't put the baby down.
During newborn sessions, I've noticed I'm drawn more to moments with mommy...with the mindset that soon she will become the phantom behind the camera and will rarely make an appearance in pictures. AND...there is nothing like capturing a mother's love for her children... N O T H I N G!

I've said it before...or written it...I'm terribly picky with black and white conversions. So, if you're a client and you find a black/white conversion....that means I reeeeally like that picture in black and white. It's simple, I just won't convert any picture to black and white...I won't even waste my time with most. But when editing my twin's session, I've fallen in love with more converted portraits. THIS one below takes me to a mountain top while listening to angels sing!
While editing...I'm suffering big regrets for not having my friend come to photography me with my babies after Easton's arrival. If you're having a baby...get photographed...with your baby and all your babies. I'm huge in living without regret...and sadly, that is one regret I'm going to fix...it'll just be 8 months later. Soon, you will see me in front of the camera...
